I was the only car on the road, going really slow, and admiring the view when suddenly there they were and I stopped. I didn't look at the feet driving off. They didn't seem startled by my car but I was startled to see them! What surprised me is that they actually looked before crossing the street! If my window had been opened I could have touched them! Amazing!

I just looked up sandhill crane and do think that's what they were!

PattiAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2673312528692684114.post-56223051154320401892010-07-07T09:08:36.623-07:002010-07-07T09:08:36.623-07:00Hi Patti,

Sandhills are brownish at this time of year and have red on their heads; whoopers are white (but can be kind of sandy-colored too). As far as I know, just about all whoopers in Florida are tagged/banded, so if the birds you saw had colored bands on their legs, they could have been whoopers. If not, they were probably Sandhills. Do you remember if they had bands or not?Feliciahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15364571181978955929noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2673312528692684114.post-63974759319533593832010-07-06T06:18:29.008-07:002010-07-06T06:18:29.008-07:00Hi Felicia,
Cool photo!
I thought about you yes...Hi Felicia,

Cool photo!

I thought about you yesterday! I was drving around a lake in Clermont yesterday and there were two HUGE cranes trying to cross the street. I stopped to look at them and they just stood there and looked in my window. So close! No camera. They were brownish with red caps. I drove by, they looked both ways and crossed the street!

Were they whooping cranes? Two cranes flew over the lake where I was a couple of days prior calling with a whoop, whoop sound.

PattiAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2673312528692684114.post-54957907623316407562010-06-28T20:28:31.447-07:002010-06-28T20:28:31.447-07:00Very interesting image.
